How Do I get lower Insurance?

That is the million dollar question.  In an economic environment where it seems that everything is getting more expensive year over year people are wondering how and where can I possibly cut costs? getting a lower Insurance rate is and underrated science.  Rightaway Insurance of Alexandria has a team of experienced and knowledgeable brokers and we have put together a list of tips and tricks for clients to help maximize discounts and get an affordable insurance rate.

Car Insurance

1. Make sure that your agent knows about all of the safety features that your vehicle has.  Many Insurance carriers will take factors such as passive breaking, Anti lock brakes, Dynamic cruise control and lane change assist etc into consideration when calculating your insurance premium.  Insurance agents are not mind readers and in a highly competitive industry where customers want not only the best rates but in 10 minutes or less your agent may be skipping questions that may lead to a lower insurance premium for you.  Slow down and make sure that the agent is aware how Awesome your car is.

2.Make sure your information is upto date including current address, Marital Status, did you purchase  a home last year and forget to tell your agent?  Making sure your insurance agent knows all of the life changes that may have taken place since your last renewal is a good way to insure that you are taking advantage of all available discounts. Did you get married since your last renewal? many insurance carriers have discounts for married individuals who dollar for dollar pay a lower rate than their single counterparts.

3. Make sure that your agent knows how many miles you drive annually. Many insurance carriers will have low mileage discounts available and if you let the system assume that you drive average miles when you may be in the lower tier of miles driven a year you could be leaving money on the table!  the average miles a year driven is 12,000 but if you drive significantly less you could be saving 100’s of dollars a year in car insurance premiums.

4.  Tell your agent about that company car! If your drive a company car not only can you be eligible for lower miles driven discounts on the car that you own but most insurance carriers have discounts in place for drivers who are afforded a company car.  Many Insured people may not even think to mention this to their agent but having a company car can lead to huge savings that can be compounded year over year so please mention this to your agent!

Home Owners Insurance
